2nd Year M.S. Graduate Student

 

 

Jenn is from Atlanta, Georgia and completed her undergraduate work in Environmental Studies at Emory University. She found a love for the tropics while studying abroad with the School for Field Studies in Costa Rica and Australia. Her research focuses on the tropical palm Aguaje in Peru. Jenn is traveling to Honduras to gain a new perspective on tropical agriuclture and would like to learn more about other tropical plants including palms. She hopes to gain international experience, tropical crop expert contacts and networking as well as a knowlege of different crops and their management.

1st Year M.S. Graduate Student

 

 

Charlie obtained his undergraduate degree in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida with a minor in Agronomy. He is origionally from Deland, Florida and has always had a great interest in tropical systems and environments. Through this course, Charlie hopes to ain information on the opportunities and outreach offered in tropical countries to students with interests in agriuclture. He hopes to pursue research in developing programs to increase awareness of agricultural opportunities in young adults.

Final Year D.P.M. Student

 

 

Jeff was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and recieved his BS degree in biochemistry from the University of Utah. He later completed a MS in horticultural sciences at the University of Florida before beginning his doctoral program. He spent two years in Argentina as a missionary and is fluent in Spanish. After school, Jeff hopes to become a crop consultant, providing recommendations for growers of fruit and vegetable crops, particularly emphasizing diverse and sustainable cropping practices. He is interested in visiting Honduras to see highly varied and diverse cropping systems, the challenges and opportunities faces by the Hondurans, and to evaluate application of sustainable practices into US agriculture.

Major: Plant Science - Agronomy
3rd Year Undergraduate Student

 

 

Eric grew up in Fort Lauderdale, South Florida; a suburb-boy who is fascinated in anything 'not concrete'. He hopes to pursue higher degrees after graduation in the area of sustainable crop management. Eric is traveling to Honduras with an interest in tropical fruit production and sustainable practices, and hopes to agin new perspectives on both. He hopes to someday take advantage of beautiful croplands in South America, specifically in Argentina, and sees Honduras and Central America as a good first step towards southern latitudes.

1st Year M.S. Graduate Student

 

 

Matthew is from Myakka City, Florida where he grew up on 5 acres raising show swine and Holstein cattle for the local fair. Once he graduates, Matthew plans to teach agriculture at either the middle or high school level. Other goals of his for the future include getting a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education and teaching future educators. While traveling, he hopes to gain knowledge and understanding about international agriculture that he will be able to share with others as a teacher.

4th Year Undergraduate Student

 

 

Faith was born and raised in Miami, Florida, but upon graduation plans to work at Arches National Park in Utah. There she hopes to gain some experience before pursuing graduate school. Faith hopes to gain more knowledge on diverse types of agroforestry systems, particularly in the tropics.

Johnny Leeds is from Jacksonville, Florida and studying sustainability at UF. While traveling, Johnny hopes to gain a better understanding of the science behind sustainability as well as the relations between Honduras and the United States. He plans to follow his interests in sustainability after the course, and see where it takes him.

Jenny was raised in Winter Haven, Florida where citrus and beef were the main resources in Polk County. With the increase in population and development in Central Florida, the citrus and livestock industries have been impacted dramatically. Jenny plans to eventually research the relationship between society and resources, and how they impact eachother. Working for the EPA and the Peace Corp will always be defining goals for her. She hopes to gain international agricultural experience and social examples from this trip to Honduras to compliment her major and Plant Science Minor.

Viviana is a Sophomore from Puerto Rico studying to become an Environmental Lawyer. She is happy to be on the trip to Honduras to gain valuable cultural and environmental information. Viviana hopes to use her gained knowledge and return to Puerto Rico and help protect the environment.

Major: Animal Science
Undergraduate Student

 

 

Danielle's family is very active in the citrus and cattle industries in southwest Florida, owning approximately 3,000 acres of citrus, and 1,000 head of cattle. Danielle is very active in her family's business and has spent many hours working alongside her father, mother, and grandfather. Danielle enjoys showing cattle, going to the lakes, reading, and road trips. Through this course, she wants to gain an understanding of different types of farming from agriculturalists from around the nation.
